The walking route through the Waterloopbos passes a large number of hydraulic models. The Delta Works have been designed here, but also the ports of Rotterdam, Lagos, IJmuiden, Istanbul and Bangkok. The Waterloopkundig Laboratorium carried out years of research in the Waterloopbos and imitated reality with water, dams, dams and wave machines.
Now nature has slowly taken possession of the watercourse models in the forest again. Old water channels, weirs and locks are overgrown with shrubs and plants. Star moss covers banks, ferns surround the contours of old harbours and silver-grey willows grow in the water.
Animals such as kingfishers and dragonflies feel perfectly at home in the Waterloopbos with all that flowing water. This makes the Waterloopbos a unique forest due to the interaction of nature and technology.
The walk is about 3.5 kilometres long. You start at the visitor centre in Het ProefLab// and follow the white arrows.
