Of the 3,500 species of mushrooms in the Netherlands, as many as 800 can be found throughout Voorsterbos. Follow the Sporenpad through Europe's first mushroom paradise to spot lots of mushrooms, especially in autumn.
The Sporenpad starts at the car park on Leemringweg. There is also a bus stop here (Swimming Pool Voorst). The route runs partly through the forest, but also partly through a tree meadow landscape. In principle, you follow a route marked with red posts, but from the large lime tree you can choose to continue the marked route to the left along the pond or to wander a bit. There are no paths here, you find your own way. This is the best way to experience the characteristic tree meadow landscape; the ideal biotope for mushrooms.

Unfortunately, the route is unsuitable for pushchairs because of the several switchbacks. By the way, if you pay attention along the way, you will see shells in the forest. These remind us of the time when the Voorsterbos was not a forest, but Zuiderzee. For nature, these shells are very useful, because the soil becomes calcareous. And lime is good for the growth of mushrooms and special plants, which you can enjoy on this walk.
